Eco Nuts, an environmentally friendly cleaning products company, was voted the “Best New Green Product” for its large laundry detergent by the 22,000 attendees at the Natural Products Expo East in Baltimore last week. Eco Nuts was also presented with the “NEXTY” award in the Natural Living category (voted on earlier this year); the NEXTY celebrates companies shaping the future of natural and organic products.

“We are striving to be the greenest cleaning products company in the world,” said Scott Shields, president of Eco Nuts. “We believe it Is important to consider not only the product itself but what happens to the packaging after the product is gone.”

Eco Nuts debuted its now three-year-old USDA certified organic product line of sterilized soap nuts and green cleaners earlier this year at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California. Expo West is the world’s largest and premiere tradeshow for the natural and organic products industry while Expo East is the East Coast equivalent. Both shows are produced by Boulder, Co., New Hope Natural Media.

NEXTY nominations were given to 51 companies at Expo West 2012 which NEXT Forecast 2013 experts identified as key leaders and influencers shaping the future of the natural products landscape.

Founded in 2008 by Shields and Marketing Director Mona Weiss, Eco Nuts has made waves in the industry with its organic cleaners and nontraditional plastic-free packaging. “We’re so gratified that our colleagues understand what we are trying to achieve by bringing more environmentally friendly products to the consumer,” said Weiss.

The company’s commitment to the environment has been a guiding factor in its product development. By eliminating plastic packaging and creating new innovative and effective products, Eco Nuts has carved out a unique place in the global green cleaning market that has been embraced by picky cloth-diapering moms and high-end clientele alike.

Many of those with sensitive skin, eczema and psoriasis have found Eco Nuts won’t aggravate these conditions while getting towels and laundry soft and fluffy. The hypoallergenic detergent has also been celebrated by cloth diapering moms as a fabulous way to keep their diapers clean and absorbent without chemicals that irritate delicate baby skin.

Eco Nuts Liquid Detergent and Eco Nuts Soap Nuts are packaged plastic-free and contain no dyes, fragrances, fillers, enzymes or optical brighteners and are 100 percent SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) and phosphate-free.

Eco Nuts Liquid Detergent and Eco Nuts Soap Nuts are clean-rinsing detergents embraced by parents for its effectiveness on cloth diapers, and its gentleness on sensitive skin, eczema and psoriasis. More information can be found at

I found out about your product while doing extensive research on the plastics pollution horror in our oceans. I was looking for ways to eliminate plastic products from my life and from my kids’ lives. As an environmental planner and horticulturist, I was intrigued when I read about soap nuts as a equal or better laundry detergent. I ordered my first box from Abe’s Market a year ago and since then have found your product to out perform any liquid commercial detergent in the hard plastic bottles (one of the huge culprits of plastic pollution – millions of tiny pieces of hard plastic in the ocean) and because it doesn’t come in a plastic bottle I find it superior to 7th Generation and other natural products. I would love to be a spokesperson for your product! I can’t afford your shipping costs so I am buying on a different site but I wanted to communicate to you how excited I am about this. Thank you for introducing such an amazingly smart product that we can feel good about.
