When you see food, cosmetics and cleaning products labeled as organic, it is referring not only to the product itself but how the produce or ingredients were grown and processed.

While it’s a lot of extra work for us, the USDA Organic logo ensures integrity, transparency and instills confidence that our products are organic because all of our ingredients must be traceable back to their source.

The cleaning products industry remains largely unregulated. Many brands use the words “organic” and “natural” on their packaging and in their marketing without anything to back it up. We at Eco Nuts are passionate about changing the cleaning product industry for the better, which is why the USDA Organic certification is so important to us. 

What The Organic Seal Means

Our soap berries and other ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, sewage sludge, synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, bioengineering, or ionizing radiation.

Many organic crops – including our soap berries – are wild harvested. This means they were grown in their indigenous habitat without human intervention or cultivation and harvested according to guidelines that emphasize minimal environmental impact with long-term sustainability in mind.

Organic farming means the emphasis is on farmers using renewable resources and mimicking natural ecosystems to conserve and maintain the soil and water without polluting the environment. In order to take part in the NOP (National Organic Program) and before a product can be labeled “organic,” a government-approved certifier must inspect the land and facilities where the food is grown and processed to make sure the farmer is following all necessary rules to meet USDA Organic standards. Companies that handle or process organic food before it gets to your local supermarket or restaurant must be certified as well.

Products that are imported from other countries but sold as “organic” in the USA have been certified to the USDA National Organic Program. Just like in the USA, their facilities are inspected annually and are subject to all the same rules and regulations that are required of US producers and handlers.
